I did febfast sugar and alcohol. The alcohol was easy, despite peer pressure. But the sugar was very difficult. It is in EVERYTHING and I had to go back to basics and whole organic foods. As I'm fructose intolerant I'm used to reading labels, but this stepped it up a lot. I had withdrawals at the start but by the end of the month I felt amazing, clearer skin, clearer mind and lots more energy. Thanks for the support Febfast!

"I was delighted to discover Nojitos, no-alcohol mojitos. I could happily drink them while others we're drinking mojitos, and these ones looked just the same as mojitos.
I will have them again. No need to wait until next FebFast!"

Febfast was a great opportunity for me to check in on my relationship with alcohol. I actually did 40 days, starting in January when I returned to work after the Christmas / New Year break. I discovered how much drinking is a part of our culture. I had many conversations about alcohol with friends and family and it was very interesting gaining a range of perspectives on alcohol as an issue. My husband also drank far less through Febfast as a result of me participating. We socialised as much, purchased less alcohol and were more active. It was terrific.

On the 12th of February I was to become a dad; right in the middle of FebFast. Forever I had looked forward to drink a beautiful Whisky at this special moment to celebrate the birth. But I'm big on sticking to my principles, and now it looked like I had a tough choice ahead: celebrate with whiskey, or celebrate with FebFast. Fortunately all worked out for the best, my baby was born early January so I had my Whisky celebration. And during FebFast, while the baby kept me awake some nights, my sleep was still much better without alcohol.

I am so passionate about changing Australias drinking culture I hear about febFast and approached our CEO and requested our local government organisation sign up to febFast. I have never done anything like this before in my life and would not normally approach anyone for anything. I started two weeks before febFast started and I encourgaed over 40 staff to sign up and we raised nealy $1,000. The organisation has agreed to sign up again for next year and I will be working on many more participants and more fundraising. This experience has changed my life.

My whole family did Febfast which then encouraged our best friends to do it as well so there was a knock on effect. It made us all mindful about how much we drink and how much sugar we consume. We have now stopped consuming all processed sugar (except of special occasions), we are exercising more and so far we have lost about 10 kgs between us all. Febfast is such a great month! We will be doing it again next year.

My new partner and I had the chance to really get to know eachother, without alcohol, doing febfast together. We found many new ways to spend time together without alcohol, and I love her even more than before febfast! We have reintroduced alcohol, but now have nights without it, doing more fun things than drinking..

FebFast brought our work team together, sharing stories of dealing with awkward social events and family pressure to break our alcohol fasts, delicious sugar-free treats we brought to work, the calmness that came with going low-tech and the personal discipline of going to bed earlier rather than relying on caffeine for an energy boost! We lost unwanted weight, talked to our partners more and changed some pretty ingrained habits.. all together whilst raising money for worthy causes - an excellent experience all 'round,

I have never had a month off alcohol since I was 18. Febfast opened my eyes to the habits we make, and how alcohol is ingrained in our day to day livves. Since completing FebFast I have dramatically decreased my alcohol intake and am enjoying life and the present much more.

For me the biggest challenge of Febfast sugar was trying to stay on track while living life with a three kids under 5. Meals are often unplanned or rushed and you often don't have the headspace to think about creating your sugar free diet. Febfast helped me put in place habit of healthy eating which effectively made a low or no sugar diet, a matter of habit rather than planning. Thanks!

This was my 4th year as a Febfaster, but my first year as an official Febfaster. I'm really glad I went official this year as I appreciated that I felt supported through Facebook, the SMS messages and the App. My boss offered to sponsor me, which was great. I will definitly keep doing Febfast offically. I really do it to prove to myself that I can go without alcohol, and I know it's good for my liver to get a break from alcohol. The fact that I am helping a charity supporting youth addicition is a bonus. It's a win - win! My friends who participate have done so unofficially, so maybe next year I'll encourage them to register.

FebFast Sugar was my biggest challenge and I really struggled to block out the thoughts to grab that cool snickers bar from my fridge drawer throughout the month. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, as when FebFast was over, I didn't even think about eating that bar of chocolate. I didn't need to anymore. So thank you FebFast!

February, what a month! First of all I had to endure the constant baiting and teasing from not only mates but work mates too. What! you won't last they said. Well, I showed them. I not only lasted the whole 28 days but I did it easy. I lost weight, feel fitter and have more energy. Thanks to Febfast I have signed up for a 15km run and am loving life. May even do it again next year.

During FebFast my son asked if I wanted to have a beer with him after coming home from work. I had been quite concerned that he seemed to be drinking nearly every day. I reminded him that I couldn't because I was on FebFast and talked to him about the article I had read in the FebFast magazine that day about the brain and the importance of sticking to 28 days to change the pattern. I was pleasantly surprised when he went to the fridge and returned with a cold glass of water instead of a beer.

My FebFast challenge kick-started a healthy lifestyle change for me. Sugar is my downfall and FebFast enabled me to focus on that while I changed my general diet and got active. I'm well on my way to reaching my goals now and have lost over 6 kilos so far. I'm very proud of myself and pleased that I could promote the support of vulnerable teens while I did it. Thanks FebFast.

I thought febfast was a great opportunity to reduce my sugar intake - I am overall a very healthy eater but I always have a little bit of chocolate everyday; this is a habit I have found impossible to break in the past! Committing to Febfast helped me overcome my bad habits and I am now healthier for it.

I never anticipated FebFast would be so rewarding and difficult! It was an excellent opportunity to make better choices for my health while helping a worthy cause. I was on my way to pick up a saturday morning coffee with my boyfriend (about halfway through the callenge I was at breaking point) when I received a febfast text message about how thankful my liver was for giving up the coffee! It was like I had a febfast angel following me and knew I was at breaking point! I decided to get a peppermint tea instead!!

I switched off Social Media for Febfast and never looked back. The 28 days of Febfast allowed me to 'trial' being off social media knowing that it was there on march 1(Digital Detox but I did it 24hrs a day!). On march 1 I switched back on and lo and behold - I didnt need it! I realised I was much happier, alert and in the moment without it so I have removed social media permanently - I have better ways of keeping in touch with the people I need too. I also managed to raise almost $400! Win Win.

Febfast Sugar gave me a whole new way to talk to my two young children about sweet foods - and I tried making lots of sugar-free treats which my kids now love. I never expected to hear my 4 year old ask me to make those 'not really chocolate balls' again Mum or to have my 7 year old refuse a bowl of cereal because it was full of sugar. Pretty unique, so, thank you FebFast for helping to get me and my family on a healthier path!

Anna,

I found giving up sugar for febfast incredibly easy initially. By the end of the last week I was really starting to struggle and knowing that others had sponsored me kept me motivated to succeed, I have tried to maintain the change and without the external accountability of Febfast it has been hard. i will definitely be doing it again!

My wife and I have been participating in FebFast for 4 years now. It's great to do it with a partner. Our friends are very supportive as we say 'No thank you' to their offers of alcohol and coffee. There are many occasions where we are tempted, but together we get there in the end and know that it is all worthwhile. Bring on Febfast 2015!
